Description
Last trimester we were tasked to make a 9x12 rubbercut print for our prelim/midterm exams in Graphic Workshop class (for and --that was probably the equivalent of the printmaking class in the older advertising curriculum, but I'm not totally sure). I had a choice between Daniel and Moses; eventually, the drama involved in this image (Daniel is wondering why the lion wouldn't attack him, if anybody asks) made it the choice. Besides, I wouldn't want to carve Hebrew letters into a ~4x4" working area with a semi-blunt engraving knife.
I like the way the stylized lines work to produce the texture and contrast on the profiles in the image. I just wish I'd made Daniel's face a little more puzzled than inquisitive, however. The lionhead was quickly copied from a photo I found on Google.
